Common Thread, 2022, cyanotype on fabric, various dimensions
Artist Statement
Sourced from a family archive, these images of my ancestors have been printed as cyanotypes on cotton to reflect on the symbolic implications between fabric and time. Each image has been modified with either hand-stitching or by removing stitches which distorts the image to reflect the incomplete nature of archives. Each image also focuses on the women in my family archive, highlighting the often underrepresented or lost histories of women. The use of fabric and sewing likewise points to labor and materials traditionally relegated to "women's work".
