Work in Progress

Statement

This work-in-progress consists of a series of black and white 35mm film images as well as color digital self-portraits that document the home and belongings of my late great-aunt. Through this work, I reflect on her legacy as a matriarch in my family and consider the ways in which her home held almost six decades of memories. It is a space that holds memories for my father and his siblings as well as myself and my own sisters. For the first time since my great-aunt purchased the house in the 1960s, it is under new ownership, thus closing a chapter on my family's part in its history. However, these images serve to document the details of her home for the sake of preserving not only the memory of the space, but my aunt's memory as well.
