Ellison Women, 2022, cyanotype on antique doilies, 36" x 60"

Artist Statement

Ellison Women utilizes archived family photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s to highlight the women in my ancestral lineage. These antique doilies that belonged to my great-great grandmother are transformed from a domestic decoration to an art object through the cyanotype photographic process. Each print is a vignette from a larger photograph, where the surface of the doily serves as a way to specifically honor the women in my family's history. The cyanotype process points to these women serving as a blueprint for the next generation.
